About Lee Chottiner

I’m a journalist, editor, and poet — still chasing stories that deserve to be told.

Over the years, I’ve reported from city halls and synagogues, edited award-winning newspapers, and written for readers across Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, and beyond. My work explores politics, Jewish life, overlooked communities, and the spaces where identity and place meet.

You may have read my work in LEO Weekly, Jewish Louisville, The Jewish Chronicle, or in local papers across the region. I’ve also lectured on the connection between poetry and journalism, edited books, and partnered with nonprofits on meaningful communication projects.

About This Substack:

This publication is where I return to the kind of writing that matters most — not driven by clicks or deadlines, but by conscience and craft.

You’ll find:

  • Reported stories that go deeper

  • Commentary on Jewish and American life

  • Reflections on politics, culture, and identity

  • The occasional poem, when the moment calls for it

These won’t be hot takes. They’ll be thoughtful ones.

Why subscribe?

Subscribing means you’ll get new writing delivered directly to your inbox — no noise, algorithms, or paywalls. Just stories worth your time.
